Kathmandu 115 All Out: Rahul's Four Wickets
Kathmandu won the toss and chose to bat at Kirtipur on Thursday 29 October 2026, but their first innings of the season never got going. Janakpur's bowlers struck early and kept striking, and only four Kathmandu batters reached double figures. Bhim Sharki top-scored with 33 off 29 balls, Rashid Khan made 17 off 14, Smit Patel 13 off 13 and Sumit Maharjan 10 off 9, while Harishankar Shah made 9 off 8 and Ripon Mondol 9 off 8. Sam Heazlett managed one off three balls and Mohammad Aadil Alam fell first ball, and with six extras Kathmandu were bowled out for 115 in 19.3 overs.
Rahul Yadav did the most damage. The Janakpur seamer took four wickets for 31 runs in four overs, removing both openers and running through the middle order. Saif Hassan, on Janakpur debut, took two wickets for 11 runs in four overs, while Moeen Ali took one for 23, captain Harmeet Singh one for 18 in 3.3 overs and Lalit Rajbanshi one for 30. Kathmandu's batters never built a stand of substance. Captain Karan KC made 8 off 18 balls, Jahandad Khan 5 off 8 and Shahab Alam finished unbeaten on 4 off 6.
Moeen and Saif's Unbroken 79 Seal the Chase
Janakpur's chase started with two quick blows. Trit Raj Das fell for five with the team score on seven, and Mayan Yadav was run out for nine with the score on 37, and for a brief moment Kathmandu had something to defend. Then Moeen Ali and Saif Hassan took the match away with an unbroken 79-run stand for the third wicket.
Moeen finished unbeaten on 58 off 51 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes, while Saif, fresh from his two wickets with the ball, finished unbeaten on 40 off 39 balls. Ripon Mondol, with one wicket for 17 runs, was Kathmandu's only wicket-taker. Janakpur reached 116 for 2 in 17.2 overs, winning by eight wickets with 16 balls to spare, and the full scorecard sits on the Janakpur vs Kathmandu match centre.
What Match 5 Means for Both Sides
The win opened Janakpur's account in Season 3. They had lost their opener to Karnali Yaks by 19 runs on 27 October, and a second defeat would have left them chasing the playoff race from the start. Instead, Rahul's four wickets and the unbeaten stand from Moeen and Saif gave them two points from two matches and fourth place in the early standings.
For Kathmandu, the defeat was a flat start to their season. James Neesham was benched and David Warner was absent, and their batting never recovered from the early strikes. They stay on zero points from one match. Janakpur next face Pokhara on 1 November at 5:00 PM NST, while Kathmandu meet Karnali on 2 November, both at Kirtipur. The match report for this game is covered in Janakpur Bolts Beat Kathmandu by 8 Wickets in NPL Match 5, Moeen's short stint in Moeen Ali: Only Four Matches for Janakpur Bolts, and Saif's arrival in Saif Hassan Joins Janakpur Bolts for NPL 2026. The full standings are on the points table.
The result also underlined the value of Janakpur's overseas core in this match. Moeen, playing only four matches for the franchise this season, anchored the chase, while Saif, on debut, delivered with both bat and ball. For Kathmandu, the search for a first win now moves to their second match, against Karnali on 2 November.
