Playing style and strengths
Kami is a right-arm fast-medium bowler at his best with the new ball — a swing-and-seam operator rather than an express quick. He attacks the stumps early, moves the ball both ways, and sets batters up with the classic new-ball sequence: the away-swinger to draw the edge, then the nip-backer at the pads. His 150-plus international wickets are built on that discipline, not pace. Through the middle overs he is the captain's control option, and his experience shows in field settings as much as deliveries.
With the bat he is a right-handed hitter down the order — not a technician, but a genuine boundary threat in the last three overs when the field is up and the bowlers are tiring.
Sompal Kami's role at Karnali Yaks in Season 3
Kami is Karnali's captain, marquee player, new-ball leader and emotional centre — the rare cricketer who is all four at once. His Season 3 bowling role is the powerplay: opening the bowling alongside Nandan Yadav, the two Nepal internationals forming the new-ball pair the squad notes highlight, then returning for high-leverage overs at the death.
As captain under head coach Gyanendra Malla — himself a former Nepal captain — he manages a uniquely varied attack: Watt's banked left-arm overs, Yuvraj Khatri's wrist-spin, and the domestic left-arm contest between Bipin Sharma and Surya Tamang. A third consecutive season as the franchise's face gives him something no auction can buy: the authority to demand standards from teenagers and internationals alike.
