Playing style and strengths
Trumpelmann is a genuine left-arm fast bowler: he runs in hard, swings the new ball at pace, and attacks the stumps from over the wicket. The 3 for 3 in the 2025 final — three wickets for three runs — is the purest expression of what he does to top orders when the ball moves.
His 2025 economy of 6.72 across ten games shows he is not just a new-ball burst bowler; he holds his own through the middle overs and owns the yorker and the bouncer for the death. With the bat he is a useful lower-order hitter — 41 runs in the 2025 season — but his selection is about those four overs. Opposition teams plan for him first, which is exactly why the Lions re-signed him before the auction could touch him.
Ruben Trumpelmann's role at Lumbini Lions in Season 3
Trumpelmann takes the new ball and leads the attack — that is the entire job description, and the Lions have built the Season 3 pace unit around it. He opens with Kishor Mahato, the NPR 10 lakh domestic signing, in a left-right combination designed to deny openers any rhythm, and he is the bowler Rohit Paudel turns to when a partnership needs breaking or the death needs defending.
Beyond the overs, his presence shapes the squad: 21-year-old Durgesh Gupta, the left-arm prospect bought back for NPR 5 lakh, trains daily against the template of what he is meant to become. Re-signed as one of two overseas players alongside Niroshan Dickwella, Trumpelmann is the one name in the champions' XI that picks itself.
