Durgesh Gupta is a Nepal left-arm fast-medium bowler who will play for Lumbini Lions in NPL Season 3. Released by the franchise in June 2026, he was bought back at the July auction for NPR 5 lakh, the strangest compliment a franchise can pay. The 21-year-old has Nepal Under-19 pedigree and produced a December 2025 T20 spell of 3 for 21 at an economy of 5.25.
Gupta is the third seamer and the left-arm understudy. With Ruben Trumpelmann taking the new ball and Kishor Mahato sharing it, his Season 3 job is to be ready when the frontline pair need rest, and to prove the rebuy right in the Nepal Premier League 2026.
About Durgesh Gupta
Durgesh Gupta is the Lumbini Lions' left-arm pace prospect with the most unusual road to Season 3: released by the franchise in June 2026, then bought back at the July auction for NPR 5 lakh. The left-arm fast-medium bowler from Banganga, Kapilbastu, born on 25 December 2004, has represented Nepal Under-19s and produced a December 2025 T20 spell of 3 for 21 at an economy of 5.25 — control as well as penetration from a 21-year-old. His NPL 2024 figures for the Lions included 3 for 21 and an unbeaten 5, and he was a squad member of the 2025 title-winning campaign.

Playing style and strengths
Gupta is a left-arm fast-medium bowler whose standout trait at 21 is control: 3 for 21 at 5.25 in December 2025 is the spell of a bowler who hits the same spot repeatedly rather than one who relies on raw pace. The left-arm angle is his natural weapon — it takes the ball across right-handers and into left-handers — and it is exactly what the Lions' attack needs as a change from Trumpelmann's express pace.
He bats left-handed but is a genuine tail-ender, so his cricket is entirely about those four overs. The development question is the oldest one for young quicks: adding a yard of pace and a reliable slower ball without losing the line-and-length discipline that got him bought back.
Durgesh Gupta's role at Lumbini Lions in Season 3
Gupta is the third seamer and the left-arm understudy: with Ruben Trumpelmann taking the new ball and Kishor Mahato sharing it, the 21-year-old's Season 3 job is to be ready when the frontline pair need rest or when conditions demand a third quick.
His release-and-rebuy arc actually clarifies his standing — the Lions let him go in June, then spent NPR 5 lakh in Category B to bring him back, which means the coaching staff see a specific future for him rather than a spare body. Training daily alongside Trumpelmann, Namibia's new-ball spearhead, is the best possible schooling for a young left-armer. His realistic target is a handful of appearances and one full four-over spell he can own.
