Saif Ali Zaib is an English all-rounder who returns to Sudurpaschim Royals for NPL Season 3, announced in August 2026 as the franchise's first confirmed overseas signing. He defined the Royals' inaugural campaign with 275 runs and 12 wickets in nine matches as the club's leading run-scorer, and was named the competition's best player. The left-hand batter and slow left-arm orthodox bowler arrives in form: a century for Northamptonshire against Middlesex at Lord's in September 2026.
In Nepal Premier League 2026, Zaib is the homecoming the fans wanted after spending Season 2 with Chitwan Rhinos. His T20 record of more than 1,792 runs at a strike rate north of 140 makes him the Royals' premier match-winner with bat and ball.
About Saif Ali Zaib
Saif Ali Zaib is the English all-rounder who defined the Royals' inaugural NPL campaign, and his return for Season 3, announced in August 2026 as the franchise's first confirmed overseas signing, is the homecoming the fans wanted. A left-hand batter and slow left-arm orthodox bowler, he was named the competition's best player in Season 1 after 275 runs and 12 wickets in nine matches as the Royals' leading run-scorer. A career Northamptonshire man, with a List A debut at 15 in 2014 and a T20 record above 1,792 runs at a strike rate north of 140, he spent Season 2 with the Chitwan Rhinos before coming home. His September 2026 century for Northamptonshire against Middlesex at Lord's, months after signing a contract extension to the end of 2027, says he returns in prime form.
Playing style and strengths
Zaib's game is left-hand power allied to genuine spin craft. The Season 1 numbers, 275 runs including two half-centuries plus 12 wickets, describe a cricketer who wins matches in both disciplines, and the career T20 strike rate north of 140 confirms the batting is not a one-season spike. As a slow left-arm orthodox bowler he gives Airee the middle-overs control option every T20 side needs, turning the ball away from right-handers and tying down scoring when the quicks rest. The Lord's century in September 2026 is the form line that matters most: a hundred at the home of cricket, weeks before the NPL, against first-class bowling. He is the rare overseas signing who does not need to adapt to conditions, he has already conquered them.
Saif Ali Zaib's role at Sudurpaschim Royals in Season 3
Zaib walks back into the Royals as the first name on Airee's overseas list and the talisman of the Season 3 campaign. His spin pairs with the captain's offbreak to give the Royals a two-spinner middle phase, left-arm orthodox and offbreak turning it both ways, while his left-hand batting slots into a middle order that already has McMullen's right-hand power and Airee's own hitting. The 2024 title run was built on his 275 runs and 12 wickets; Season 2, spent with the Chitwan Rhinos, only sharpened the sense of unfinished business. For a club chasing the trophy after back-to-back runners-up finishes, bringing home the competition's inaugural best player is both a cricket decision and a statement of intent.
