Kiran Thagunna is a Nepal cricketer who will represent Pokhara Avengers in NPL Season 3 after being kept through the June 2026 retention window as one of seven domestic players. The verified record does not specify his playing role, so the retention is the evidence: a season of daily evaluation by the coaches, ending in a decision to keep him while new head coach Ajantha Mendis arrived, Shakib Al Hasan and Dhananjaya Lakshan signed, and six new domestic names came through the auction.
In the Nepal Premier League 2026, Thagunna's value combines that vote of confidence with home-ground familiarity in a single-venue tournament at Kirtipur. He knows the ground, and in October that knowledge is currency.
About Kiran Thagunna
Kiran Thagunna is one of the seven domestic players Pokhara Avengers chose to keep through their June 2026 retention window — a continuity call made while the franchise rebuilt almost everything else. New head coach Ajantha Mendis arrived, Shakib Al Hasan and Dhananjaya Lakshan signed as overseas headliners, and six new domestic names came through the auction; Thagunna stayed.
The public record does not specify his playing role, which leaves the retention as the evidence: a season of private evaluation by coaches who watched him daily, ending in a decision to keep him. His Season 3 value combines that vote of confidence with the home-ground familiarity that matters in a single-venue tournament — Thagunna knows Kirtipur, and in October that knowledge is currency.

Playing style and strengths
Thagunna's profile is the honest one of the retained domestic cricketer: no public role, no headline numbers, just a franchise's decision that he makes the group better. In fifteen-player squads, players like him earn their place through the disciplines that never make scorecards — the intensity of their fielding, the quality of their net contributions, the professionalism of their preparation. Coaches notice who trains like a starter when they are not one; Thagunna clearly did.
His strength is readiness without rust. The gap between the XI and the rest of the squad is where tournaments are lost — when the call comes through injury, rotation or a tactical switch, the replacement has to perform cold. A retained player who has spent a full season inside the franchise's systems, at its home ground, is the closest thing to a warm standby a coach gets. Thagunna's game is built for that moment: fit, familiar, and waiting.
Kiran Thagunna's role at Pokhara Avengers in Season 3
Kiran Thagunna's role at Pokhara Avengers in Season 3 is squad depth with a purpose. The starting XI will lean on its pillars — captain Kushal Bhurtel, Shakib, Dhananjaya Lakshan, keeper Arjun Gharti and the spin of Sagar Dhakal — but a league season is a war of attrition, and Thagunna is part of the seven-man retained core whose job is to ensure the drop-off never shows. His brief: train at XI intensity, know every game plan, and be selectable at a day's notice.
He also carries the quiet responsibility of the retained group: setting the culture for six auction buys and two overseas stars still learning what Pokhara expects. Franchises chasing a first playoff appearance need their whole fifteen pulling one way, and players like Thagunna — kept for character as much as cricket — are how that happens. His season succeeds if the squad never feels like fourteen plus one.
